Despite the January temperatures, there was a festival atmosphere today (Sunday). Yesterday's racing was called off due to bad weather, but the wind has dropped a little today (but still bracing!) so the race could go ahead. This fellow entertained the crowds with some acrobatic displays in the harbour, including somersaults and back flips.

Caught in mid-flip
Not that I ever doubted the stout constitution of Yorkshire folk, but there were some hardy individuals who were sunbathing on the beach in their swimsuits. I guess anything above 10C counts as a heatwave here.

Getting ready for the start

And they're off!
Rather them than me. The waves were around 3m high and on the limit of what the boats could handle; two retired with broken bits after the first race, and I'm sure it must have been bone-jarring for the racers.
The forecast for tomorrow looks good, so I'm preparing the boat for the next leg.
