Leg 13 - Arbroath to Peterhead

With a reasonably favourable wind direction and no sheltered ports in between, I decided to take a long hop up to Peterhead. It was a 12-hour trip and the temperature was only about 10 degrees, so I was thoroughly chilled by the time I arrived. I was extremely grateful for a lovely hot shower and an even hotter curry before snuggling up in my warm duvet for the night.
I'm now faced with a difficult decision; do I carry on up to Orkney or cut through the Caledonian Canal to the West Coast? I have to say the prospect of getting away from the chilly East Coast is very tempting! However, there seems to be a short window in the weather over the next couple of days that would allow me to get up to Orkney before the winds pick up again from the North.
I'll sneak up around the corner to Whitehills tomorrow before making a final decision; I can still go either way from there.
Peterhead is a lovely little town dominated by fishing and big service vessels going back and forth to the oil rigs. The harbour is a bit industrial, but the marina is tucked away in a little corner next to a beach and caravan site. Must be lovely here in the summer...
