Marina with Pwllheli in the background (honest!)
This was the longest leg so far; 56 nautical miles. It was an early start and conditions were calm but clear. A big swell was still running from the strong winds the day before, but the wind was not strong enough to sail so I motored all the way. After an hour or so, the mist started to roll in and became thicker as the day wore on. I caught a glimpse of the mountains in Snowdonia, but then there was nothing; a complete white-out.
With the GPS plotter on my tablet and the radar I was able to continue, but it is a very disconcerting feeling not being able to see anything - you're always wondering if there's something out there that doesn't show up on the radar. I somehow managed to pass through the narrow gap between the tip of the Lleyn peninsular and Bardsey Island without seeing either of them. It was with great relief that I arrived at Pwllheli and saw the harbour entrance loom through the fog. I would be lost without my GPS...
