Port St. Mary to Holyhead

Another long crossing of the Irish Sea down to Welsh Wales. Conditions were almost perfect to start with; there was a good breeze and clear skies, but very little swell because of the calm day yesterday. I sailed all the way, but as the day wore on the skies clouded over, the wind freshened and the swell started to build up again. Sailing in a big swell is really hard work. Whenever you try to move around the boat, everything either moves away from you or comes to meet you unexpectedly. You end up a bit battered and bruised and physically exhausted from the effort.

An isolated rock south of the Isle of Man

Once I reached Holyhead, the forecast was pretty poor for the next few days so I took a break to recover from the Irish Sea crossings.

The game's up - they finally caught up with me

A police launch came in right behind me for some repairs. With the sophisticated infra-red cameras pointing straight into my cabin I had to be on my best behaviour.
