Milford Haven to Burry Port

I headed towards Burry Port, a small harbour near Llanelli where my brother and his family live. The approach to Burry Port is very tricky and involves negotiating a maze of sandbanks with no buoys to mark the channels. I tried following the deep water channels using the chart plotter but was dismayed to find that the depths reported on the depth sounder bore absolutely no relation to the depths shown on the charts! I'd timed the journey to approach on a rising tide so if I did run aground, I wouldn't have to wait long before the tide lifted me off again. Fortunately it didn't come to that, but it must have come very close on a couple of occasions. After I arrived, I found out from one of the locals that the huge sandbank in the middle of the channel isn't there any more and I could have just come straight in.

Glorious sunset over Burry Port
Burry Port is a tidal basin, and at low tide the boat settled on the bottom making for a very still and peaceful night's sleep.

Who pulled the plug out?
